Alive in Slides, Dead in Execution. Why Your GTM Strategy is Schrödinger's Cat

|

Cat slowly emerging out of box, alive

Too often, GTM strategy is Schrödinger's cat: alive in the slides, but dead in execution. How can both be true at the same time? It’s largely because of the messy reality of everyday work.

If you ask a rep if they opened the ICP document before jumping on a key prospect call, or a performance marketer if they checked the messaging framework before building an ad campaign, they’ll usually admit they didn’t. Or that they opened it a few weeks (if not months) back. It’s painful to know the strategy is sitting comfortably in slides or Notion without being observed or used where the real work is happening.

And that’s why execution drifts.

Why gut feel replaces the strategy deck

When the strategy is locked away, the organization starts running on gut feel. Reps use their own instincts to decide which accounts are worth calling, marketers pick events based on a general vibe, or historical sponsorships. And two people responsible for the same region and product end up saying completely different things to a prospect.

The instinctive reaction is to try and get teams to open the box more often. You schedule more enablement sessions, pair PMMs with sales teams ahead of key customer calls, or drop gentle Slack reminders asking everyone to review the latest strategy docs. All of this helps for a few days, but it inevitably decays to the same pattern because it’s exhausting. People are already busy, and you’re asking them to remember more rules and open more tabs, when they feel overloaded.

Like Schrödinger’s cat, the strategy has potential

How about instead of asking people to manually look up the strategy, the strategy is made available inside their workflow?

A rep shouldn't have to manually cross-reference an ICP deck to decide who to call; they should simply be handed a priority list with those ICP criteria applied. A marketer picking an event shouldn't have to guess if the audience is right; they should see a scored attendee list that shows whether it’s worth the investment.

That means taking strategy out of isolated documents and building it directly into workflows - wherever they may be. A Context Library holds your ICP definitions, positioning, signal definitions, buyer personas, offers and competitive triggers, so everyone pulls from the same source of truth rather than relying on their memory from the Sales Kick Off.

Like Schrödinger’s cat, a GTM strategy has potential. It can be alive or dead. Our job is to give it a real chance to stay alive, in the daily decisions people make.

The cat’s out of the box (and running inside your AI tools)

We just shipped a way to make this even more seamless.

Hivekind now runs directly inside LLMs such as Claude and ChatGPT using MCP (Model Context Protocol). The strategy isn't sitting in Google Drive anymore. t's available where people are already working.

When your team wants to work on something, Hivekind supplies the underlying strategy and data automatically. If they want to know how to interpret and act on a signal, they can do that without opening a 21st tab. And because MCP isn't limited to answering questions, the same conversational interface can extend into the work itself - creating a new record, finding partner relationships, identifying target accounts, or cleaning up duplicate data.

The strategy is alive in the everyday work now, whether someone remembers to check the slides or not.

The cat’s out, and thriving.

FAQs

Q: What is a GTM Context Library?
A: A GTM Context Library is a centralized place for revenue strategy that houses an organization's Ideal Customer Profiles (ICPs), messaging frameworks, positioning, buyer personas, signal definitions, and competitive intelligence. Unlike static decks, a Context Library programmatically injects strategy directly into pre-pipeline workflows and sales tools, ensuring execution matches strategic intent across sales, marketing, and RevOps.
Q: Why does GTM execution drift from strategy?
A: GTM execution drifts because strategy traditionally lives in isolated documents (like PowerPoint decks, Sharepoint or Notion pages) far removed from where daily decisions happen. When reps and marketers are under pressure, they rely on intuition and memory rather than opening reference documents, leading to inconsistent messaging, poor target prioritization, and inadequate use of product narrative.
Q: How does Hivekind use Model Context Protocol (MCP) for GTM automation?
A: Hivekind uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect its GTM Context Library directly into AI platforms like Claude and ChatGPT. This allows revenue teams to prompt LLMs for account research, messaging, or signal interpretation, while Hivekind automatically supplies the enterprise’s underlying ICP criteria, positioning, and strategy data in real time without requiring manual copy-pasting or new dashboards.

Most of my marketing insights come when I’m not trying, usually on my evening walks. After years in product marketing across B2B SaaS, including martech, CX, personalization, and agentic technologies, I’ve seen how complex go-to-market has become in practice. I write to make sense of that complexity, separating signal from noise, and to explore what actually helps GTM teams grow, align, and get smarter over time.
